Early Life And Education

Tiwa Savage, whose real name is Tiwatope Savage-Balogun, was born on the 5th of February, 1980, in Isale Eko, Lagos State, Nigeria, to Yoruba parents Mr. and Mrs. Savage. She, however, relocated to London at the age of 11 for her secondary education. Tiwa Savage attended the notable University of Kent in Canterbury, England, and obtained a degree in Accounting. After that, she enrolled at the Berklee College of Music, where she graduated with a degree in Professional Music in 2007.

Personal Life

Tiwa Savage married Tunji “Tee Billz” Balogun on the 23rd of November, 2013, with their traditional marriage at the Ark in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. In 2015, she and her husband announced they were expecting their first child.

After six months, Tiwa Savage gave birth to their son, which remains her only child to date. Their marriage ended suddenly in 2018 after her husband, Tee Billz, accused her of infidelity.

Career

Tiwa Savage started her music career early while attending secondary school; she was a trombone player for her band. She further did backup vocals for English singer George Michael and other musicians, including Emma Bunton, Andrea Bocelli, Mary .J. Blige, Blu Cantrell, and Ms. Dynamite. Tiwa was barely 16 when she assisted these singers in providing backup vocals.

In 2006, she was a part of the UK edition of “The X Factor” and progressed to the final 24 but later ended as the 12th person to be evicted. Three years later, Tiwa Savage signed a publishing deal with Song/ATV Music Publishing and wrote for BabyFace, Mya, Fantasia, and Monica.

Despite multiple opportunities, Tiwa Savage decided to move back to Nigeria and signed with Mavin Records in 2012. She has also been involved in various events, such as performing “Arise, O Compatriots” for Ndani sessions and assisting with various youth empowerment programs and breast cancer screening projects across Nigeria.
