Wizkid, whose full name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is a hugely talented Nigerian singer and songwriter. He has contributed massively to the development of Nigeria’s entertainment industry on the global stage with performances at numerous events and songs featuring diverse foreign artists.

Early Life and Education

Wizkid was born on the 16th of July, 1990, in Surelere, Lagos State, Nigeria. He was born into a religious home, with his father being a Muslim and his mother being of the Christian faith. Wizkid grew up in Lagos while influenced by the music and happenings in his immediate environment.

There is no information on the school he attended for his primary school education. But Wizkid enrolled at Ijebu Grammar School in Ijebu-ode, Ogun state, for his secondary education.

After that, he went to Lagos State University (LASU) for his degree program but eventually dropped out in 2009. After much effort, Wizkid later enrolled at Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State but couldn’t complete his degree as he dropped out after two semesters.

Personal Life

Wizkid is currently not married, but he has three children, namely Zion Ayo-Balogun, Boluwatife Balogun, and Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun Jr. Wizkid is rumored to be in a relationship with one of his baby mamas known as Jada Pollock.

Career

Wizkid started his music career in 2009 when he was signed under the record label “Empire Mates Entertainment” (EME), which was managed by then-CEO Banky W. In 2010, he released his official album with the hit single “Holla at Your Boy” being instrumental in promoting and bringing his name to the limelight of the music industry.

This specific hit-making song earned him the Next Rated Award at the 2011 Headies Award Ceremony. In addition to this award, Wizkid got a 2012 Hyundai Sonata as a bonus award from the organizers.

He has several excellent and best-selling albums, with singles such as Tease Me/Bad Guys and Superstar also making waves. Also, Wizkid has had collaborations with diverse producers, including E-kelly, Shizzi, Masterkraft, Samklef, and Jay Sleek, amongst others.

Wizkid has numerous feats among his pairs in the industry which include being the first Nigerian musician to have 1 million Twitter followers in 2014, being the first Afrobeat artist to be included in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2017, and also winning a Grammy Awards in 2021 after featuring in Beyoncé’s Brown Skin Girl.
